I had to do one of the hardest, saddest things ever. I had to put my sweet Titus to sleep. He was 13 years with us. Our home has had a cat or two in it for over 28 years. Now it is empty and when I walk in a room, I think Titus will be sleeping in it or when I lay on the couch I feel like a cat should come and lay on me and keep me warm. I will miss him so much. I think this cat was so unique. He had lots of mishaps and he was a strange one at times, but he was so loving towards everyone. He was scared of a lot. I always said that if you look up scaredy cat in the dictionary, Titus' picture would appear there. I realized, I don't have a picture with my kitty. That makes me sad but I have lots of him. So to honor him I will post some pictures and a few stories about this cat.
1. He would always run on the window, like he was trying to get through the glass. He was doing that in his cage the day we rescued him from the pound. I think that's why I loved him.
2. He would climb up on the roof of our house from a fence by the air conditioner. He would come up to the windows upstairs and want me to get him. After several times I told him no way. You got up there you can get down. I think he liked the view from up there. This lasted about 6 months. I don't know how he jumped so high.
3. He was attacked by birds in our yard in the spring. He would be walking in the yard minding his own business and the birds would swoop down and peck his head. It was so hilarious and sad. No wonder he was always cautious going outside. His little head got all scabbed over from those mean birds.
4. He got in countless fights when other cats would walk through our yard. He got an infection on his face and looked like a monster. This he did several times but I helped get him well. He was a warrior.
5. I ran my kitty over one time. I told him to go outside and enjoy a pretty day and then I was off to the store. I didn't realize he was by the car. After it happened and saw him running to the side yard and he turned back and looked at me like....."you tried to kill me" I was devastated. Thankfully I only ran over his tail and it was ok. He mended in a few weeks. I was much more careful after that day.
6. He was a pest to our older cat Chicken Nugget. He would want to play and she was like "leave me alone." Don't worry she was just getting payback for doing the same thing with our older cat Little Bit. She used to bug the crap out of him.
7. Titus got a little payback when Emily and Taylor brought their cat Nala to stay with us for a bit. Eventually he was ok with her but she was troubled by Titus.
8. Titus loved to be around anyone who would come over. He wanted to be in the center of the room licking parts that should be licked in private.
9. He handled grandkids once they came and realized that maybe he wasn't the favorite anymore. He only got mean with a couple that stepped on his tail or "loved" him a little to hard.
10. He was a very big cat and he would stretch out on his back and stretch his legs as far as possible. We called it making a hotdog. He looked just like a hotdog in a bun.
11. As Tom and I were traveling more the past years Titus took it very personally. He didn't like to be left alone. When we got the suitcases out he would looked panicked. Thanks to my friend Cathy J. and my sons in law James and Taylor and Alisha and Emily, he was well taken care of. He even lived through our house flooding while we were at the beach. :(
12. Titus was a snuggler and when I would cry or was sick, he was always there to comfort me. He wasn't there for me on Friday, I had to cry without his snuggles and purrs.
One thing I know for sure. He was a loved kitty and is going to be missed by many people. Thanks for giving us so much Titus. Don't bother Chicken Nugget and LittleBit too much in kitty heaven.
